Hotel Management Internship at the Shangri-La

  • This program is open to undergraduate students from all academic disciplines, but will be of particular interest to students in Retailing and Tourism Management.

This program combines study abroad, professional training and cultural experience at an international luxury hotel group in China - the Shangri-La. Participants on this program will take two Distance Learning courses (6 credit hours in total) from the University of Kentucky while also completing a full-time internship (6 credit hours) at the Shangri-La hotel in Chengdu, China. While working as an intern, each student will complete a hotel consulting project based on the real needs of the hotel.

The internship itself offers a main position in either the front office, food and beverage, customer service, marketing and public relations, training, housekeeping or club. Students will have the opportunity to rotate through 2 of these areas while focusing their consulting project on one primary position.

  • Develop a professional network by interacting with guests from all over the world.
  • Plan and organize events for the hotel, such as the yearly Halloween party, American Food Festivals, etc.
