Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles in Italy

  • This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines who are at least a sophomore standing.

The Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles program to Italy will focus on the "Fashion and Retailing Industry" in Florence, Rome and Venice including fashion design, retailing, merchandise presentation, textiles and product development. Students will participate in 10 intensive days of seminars, professional visits, cultural visits, tours, etc. dealing with a variety of aspects in the fashion and retailing industry. Students will also be exposed to the differences between the retailing and fashion industries in Italy and the U.S., and they will explore how the Italian culture influences these differences.


  • Visit such sites as Gianfranco Lotti, Bulgari, Il Papiro, Bespoke Bemer, Aqua Flor, Rinascente, and more!
  • Examine fashion elements in an international setting, including the nature of major department stores, specialty stores, museums and special events.
  • Understand the interrelationships of design, merchandising, textiles and promotion through a different cultural lens.
  • Observe and practice the essential elements of professional behavior, dress and interactions in the fashion industry.
