Professional Profile

Derek is a full-time, master's level professional currently supporting the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment as an Academic Living Learning Success Coordinator.

After spending some time working in veterinary clinics in Louisville and Murray, KY, Derek received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 2013 with a major in Animal Health Technology and a minor in Psychology. He then expanded to working in Higher Education and received his Master of Science in Human Development and Leadership by 2015 with a major in College Student Personnel and a Post-Secondary Internship with the LGBT Programming Office.

After completing his graduate degree, Derek relocated to the flagship campus of UMass Amherst in Western Massachusetts. There he served, in multiple roles including as an instructor for education courses, curriculum development, behavioral and conduct case management, and residential education leadership. From there, he moved on to work at Sonoma State University in the San Francisco North Bay Area. He served two years as a Residential Area Coordinator and Staff Chair for the inaugural Queer Faculty and Staff Association of SSU. He received a certificate in human Resource Management in the Spring of 2020 before deciding to return to his home state.

In August, 2020, Derek joined the University of Kentucky to officially become a Wildcat. (His father is very proud).

Derek carries extensive knowledge and training in campus housing, residential education, residential curriculum development, higher education administration, instructional design, academic programming, behavior and conduct case management, marketing and brand design, and human resource management. He is also an excellent barista.
