Scandinavian Health, Well-Being & Life Quality

Sweden is highly ranked for having some of the highest rates of well-being, life quality and overall health in addition to happiness and longevity. This course will meet on campus throughout the spring semester and then travel to Stockholm for one week in May to further explore the country’s commitment to human rights, public service and sustainability from the cradle to the grave.

Specifically, this program will examine successful, publicly funded health care and social service systems that help the country lead the world in health outcomes. The program will also examine factors that contribute to the country’s high rank in life quality, including income security, health status, education capability and an enabling environment. Lastly, this course will provide students with an opportunity to learn first-hand the ways in which Sweden is a model country for mental health care due to policies such as preventive care, mental health, aging in place, home health services, physical activity and timely treatment.
