Graduation Check-List

  1. APPLY FOR YOUR DEGREE in myUK by the posted deadlines (see below) in the term before you expect to complete course(s) for your degree (that includes a final internship or independent study project).
    If you missed the degree application deadline, immediately contact the Center for Student Success, N24 Ag Science Center, for further information and instructions. 

  2. Submit repeat option forms prior to finals week if you have retaken courses at UK and have not yet submitted them.

  3. Request official transcripts be sent to UK if you have completed courses at another university/college that need to be applied towards your UK degree. Contact the registrar at the other school to learn how to have the transcript(s) sent to UK. Alert the Center for Student Success, N24 Ag Science Center, if you are taking courses at another school during the final term. 

  4. Clear any STOPS or HOLDs (except Advisor Hold) during your final semester

  5. Register to participate in the Commencement ceremony

  6. Attend Grad Salute to purchase cap/gown/tassel/honor cord and more in early October or early March (available at UK Bookstore after Grad Salute)

Graduation FAQs

  • How and when do I apply for graduation?
    You must complete a degree application the semester before you graduate (the term before you will finish final courses, internships and/or independent study projects). You’ll complete your degree application via myUK; “myRecords”; “Apply for a Degree.” 
    • If your major is Dietetics, Family Sciences, Hospitality Management & Tourism, Human Nutrition, or Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles, you may schedule a Graduation Audit appointment with Louise Gladstone using the myUK Appointment Scheduler. Before coming to your appointment, please review your degree audit on myUK and make a list of any questions or issues. Otherwise, your graduation audit will be completed electronically after you complete your degree application by the appropriate deadline.  
    • If your major is Agricultural & Medical Biotechnology, Agricultural Economics, Animal Sciences, Career & Technical Education, Community & Leadership Development, Equine Science & Management, Food Science, Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Modern Agronomic Crop Production, Natural Resources & Environmental Science, Horticulture, Plant & Soil Science or Sustainable Agriculture your graduation audit will be completed electronically after you complete your degree application by the appropriate deadline.

  • Do I need to sign up to walk at commencement/graduation ceremony?
    Yes, the University holds Commencement at Rupp Arena in May and December. Please go to www.uky.edu/commencement in mid October to register for the December commencement OR early March to register for the May Commencement. If you’re unable to attend you aren’t required to let anyone know.
  • Will I need a cap and gown?
    Yes, a cap and gown is required. You may purchase/order a cap and gown during Grad Salute or at the UK Bookstore.
  • What color tassel do I need?
    Agriculture, Food and Environment students wear a Maize colored tassel.
  • How do I know if I’m graduating with honors?
    You may check your unofficial transcript and look at your cumulative GPA. The break- down is as follows for University Commencement honors:

With 90 EARNED HOURS at UK:

3.4 – 3.59 cum laude

3.6 – 3.79 magna cum laude

3.8 – 4.0 summa cum laude

       Students with a minimum of two (60 hours) but less than three years (90 hours) of work
       at 
the University will receive the appropriate commencement honors if they attain a grade-
       point average of 0.2 greater than those specified for three years of residence work (at
       UK).
  

  • When will my degree show up on my official transcript?
    The awarded degree is posted at the top of the UK transcript approximately 4 weeks after the final term once completion of all requirements has been verified by the Registrar's Office.   • When and how will I receive my diploma?
    Diplomas are typically mailed by the Registrar Office within 3-4 months of your degree completion. The diploma will be sent to the address you provided when you complete your degree application via myUK.
