Have you completed an internship, job, or been involved with a club that has been especially meaningful to you?

This past summer I completed an internship with Nutrien Ag Solutions in Clay, Kentucky. During my time there I was able to learn about the everyday operations in a retail agriculture, and use what I have learned while in school in a real life setting. I was also able to complete a small research project about insecticide effectiveness on soybean plants to make future references for the growers. This was as great first opportunity to see my opportunities after graduation.

Cortne's Top 3 Study Tips

1. Be as attentive to the lecture as possible. Use your iPad to follow along with powerpoint lectures and keeping note of what the instructor says when explaining specific slides.

2. Ask for help when you need it. There are plenty of resources offered by our campus to help in any area that might be needed.

3. My favorite spot to study on CAFE campus is the first floor of the Garrigus building. Typically this area is quiet and not crowded.

Considering all you have learned in your area of study, is there a common misconception or something you wish everyone knew about the subject?

My major, Agriculture Ecosystem Sciences, can be very hard to understand sometimes. This is great major option for students who would like to learn about multiple aspects of agriculture. Having multiple options for areas of specialization is very helpful for someone who isn't quite sure what they are most interested in coming in. I personally like having the options of specializations that are applicable for minor options within the college to make myself more marketable when graduation comes around.

What advice would you offer an incoming freshman in the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment?

My best advice I could give to an incoming freshman would be to not be afraid to get involved. Joining clubs that are associated with your major as well as with others that you are interested in will give you a great opportunity to meet new people and find your passion. I have enjoyed being in the different clubs and organizations that I am in because they have allowed me to grow from a freshman member to now holding officer positions.
