Tell us about your favorite professor, advisor, or other member of the UK family that has been especially impactful during your college career? What makes them so special? How have they impacted your time here?

In college it is a lot harder or a lot easier to form relationships with staff and professors, especially in majors with large class sizes. For me, I feel as though it’s about in the middle but, as a student ambassador, Wayne Centers has truly had quite an impact on my college career so far. I have never once felt judged or different when he’s around. He welcomed me into the ambassador program with open arms and continues to be incredibly supportive and positive.

Why did you choose your program, and how does your program contribute to your career goals?

I have always wanted to aid in the change that needs to happen within the world especially in the environment. I was quite lost when it came to finding a career that could match that perfectly. Some were too science based with no real impact unless I find a cure for something or become so married to my work that I do not get to have a life. The best intersection I came across was landscape architecture. I get to work with nature through all of my designs, I get to see the change as it happens as well as inspire others to do the same.

What's been your favorite course and why?

My favorite course so far would definitely have to be Astronomy 191! It was a UK core class that I took freshman year. I got to learn about the universe, its planets and things alike. It has always been something I am interested in and the class was never something I dreaded. If I could, that is what I would spend my days doing. Learning about the stars, universe, and galaxy until I pass out.

Considering all you have learned in your area of study, is there a common misconception or something you wish everyone knew about the subject?

Gardeners. Landscapers. We do not come and tend to gardens or come cut grass or shape hedges. Some can do that but majority do not and can even create buildings, dwellings, structures, etc. People often forget the architecture part of landscape architecture. We are environmental designers who are creating outdoor spaces where humans and the natural environment can coexist in harmony.
