University of Kentucky Scholarship College of Agriculture Food and Environment

Although only one application is required for the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment scholarship, there are dozens of potential awards. Thanks to the generosity of donors and alumni, awards are based on criteria such as major, hometown, career goals, club involvement, and more.

The college scholarship application for current and transfer students will open on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Application Overview

To be eligible for the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment scholarship, current students or transfer students must:

  • Have a cumulative 2.6 GPA as of Fall 2022
  • Hold a primary major in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student during all semesters in which the scholarship(s) will apply (December 2024 graduates are eligible to apply)
  • Plan to attend the College Scholarship Luncheon (date TBD)
  • Complete the scholarship application by Friday, March 1, 2024.

Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment scholarships are awarded for one academic year, in two equal amounts, for the fall and spring semesters. Students must re-apply for continuing student scholarships in the spring semester of each year.

The essay portion of the application is extremely important.

Students must complete a personal statement that answers the following:

  • If you had the chance to have a 30-minute conversation with any person in human history, living or deceased, who would be the person you choose? Why? What topics would you discuss with this person? (Please draft a thoughtful response, but keep your essay under 500 words.)

Students are encouraged to draft their statement prior to beginning the application, and meet with the UK Writing Center to strengthen their essay.

Transfer students may apply for our college scholarship after submitting their admissions application; they do not have to wait for official acceptance to the University.

If you are a transfer student who has not yet applied to the University, we encourage you to apply on a "Transfer Tuesday" where admissions application fees will be waived.

For other questions, contact Dr. Sarah Ellison, Assistant Dean of Advising for the UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
