Club Meetings

  • On Thursday, August 25 at 7:00 PM, the UK Agronomy Club is hosting their first meeting of the semester in room N10 of Ag North. All interested students are welcome to join and learn more about the club and upcoming events. 
  • Students who identify as a member of the LGTBQ+ community or ally are encouraged to join an interest meeting on September 28 at 5:00 PM in N24J Ag North. This meeting will explore the possibility of starting a UK chapter of the Cultivating Change Foundation - a group focused on  advocacy, education, and community for LGBTQ+ agriculturists. Questions can be directed to Dr. Mark Mains (mark.mains@uky.edu). 

Events

  • On Monday, August 29 at 3:00 PM, the Department of Plant Pathology will honor late professor Michael Goodin during a memorial seminar to dedicate the Dr. Michael M Goodin Center for Agricultural Fluorescence-Microscopy Experiments and Biological Imaging (CAFE-BI) in the Cameron Williams Lecture Hall, Plant Sciences Building. Presentations will be made by Anna Whitfield and Kathleen Martin, Goodin's former students. A plaque will be unveiled in memorial and coffee/snacks will be provided.

Research  

  • The College is now accepting applications for its undergraduate research grant with awards up to $1,000. These funds are available to offset expenses related to lab supplies, field work, conference travel and more. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 30. Click here to read more
  • The UK Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition is recruiting participants for a research study where participants will be placed in groups taking a milk thistle extract supplement only, participate in aerobic exercise 5 days a week, or both. The study pays $250. It's a win-win situation: have someone hold you accountable for exercising or get paid to do nothing but take an herbal supplement. Participants must be between 18 and 50, have a BMI of at least 30, in good health, and not currently exercising Contact Kyle Flack (kyle.flack@uky.edu)

  • The UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (CAFE) is seeking a student assistant to support general office and communication needs in the Center for Student Success. Duties will include greeting office visitors, answering phones, clerical support, basic web management and other projects as assigned. Successful candidates will have experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, delivering exception customer service and learning new technology. Click here to apply
  • The UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is seeking a design & media assistant to support ongoing outreach efforts related to student recruitment, retention and special programs. Primary responsibilities will include graphic design, photography, basic video and social media support. Some on-the-job training will be available, but successful applicants will have some experience with graphic design software (i.e., Adobe InDesign, Spark, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator).   • The Palli Lab in UK Entomology seeks two highly motivated undergraduate students to assist with research. Training will be provided, and previous experience is not required. Students will work as research assistants to support various research projects associated with targeted genetic approaches to insect management. They could also assist with our tick surveillance project by receiving, processing, and documenting tick samples. Learn more on the UK Entomology website
  • Pomegranate Inc. is seeking a smart, creative individual to join their growing team as they expand their brand in the digital age. The role will work closely with the Marketing Director to expand  marketing strategies including social media management, social advertising, influencer outreach, blogging, content creation, content utilization as well as traditional marketing materials.
